Twenty-four credits will be required; the following units of credits will be part of this total:
- 4 credits of English
- 4 credits of mathematics
- 4 credits of science, which must include biology, chemistry, and physics
- 4 credits of social studies
- 3 credits of a foreign language (to be completed during grades 9–12)
- 1 credit of personal fitness/physical education
- 1 credit of fine arts to be selected from music and art
- 1/2 credit of health
- 1/2 credit of computer courses
- 1/2 credit of a writing course
- 1/2 credit of speech or performing arts
- 1 credit of elective courses
All students must be registered in and receive credit for english, mathematics, science, and social studies each year they are enrolled at University School Upper School. Transfer students who enroll after grade 9 may have certain course credits waived if those courses were not required at the previous school.
Community Service - All Upper School students must fulfill a community service requirement each year in order to advance to the next grade or receive a diploma. Listed below are the required hours.
- Freshmen - 10 hours of service
- Sophomores - 15 hours of service
- Juniors - 20 hours of service
- Seniors - 30 hours of service
Seniors who have completed 400 or more volunteer hours during four years of high school will earn a silver cord to be worn at graduation.
