SAT Math Prep

This two week course is the companion to the SAT English Prep course that is also offered at University School. Instruction and practice in math concepts encountered on the PSAT/SAT/ACT are the main focus of this course along with test taking skills. This course may be taken alone or with the SAT English Prep course.

SAT English Prep

This two week course is the companion to the SAT Math Prep course that is also offered at University School. Instruction and practice grammar and writing skills needed for the PSAT/SAT/ACT are the main focus of this course along with test taking skills. This course may be taken alone or with the SAT Math Prep course.

Spanish I Enrichment

This course is designed for the student who has successfully completed Spanish II and needs enrichment instruction to jump-start his/her success in Spanish II. Grammar, vocabulary, and speaking fluency at the Spanish I level will be the focus.

French I Enrichment

This course is designed for the student who has completed French I and needs enrichment instruction to jump-start his/her success in French II. Grammar, vocabulary, and speaking fluency at the French I level will be the focus.

Chemistry Camp

This one week course is designed to strengthen students’ math and lab skills necessary for a successful experience in the chemistry class.

Grammar Boot Camp

This one week course primarily focuses on grammar skills for the high school student.

Academic Strategies Workshop

This one week course will provide students with learning strategies, reading techniques, and organizational skills designed to increase academic efficiency and effectiveness.

Health

This three week course focuses on health issues such as; nutrition, disease, drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, and healthy choices. This is a semester credit course required of all University School students graduating before 2013.

Health On-Line

An on-line course offered to University School students only, as it is WebCT based and requires an NSU account. This 9 week course focuses on health issues such as nutrition, disease, drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, and healthy choices. This course provides students an opportunity to travel during the summer and complete assignments at their own pace. A WebCT training meeting is required of students before summer school starts and a final exam will be administered in a classroom setting at the end of the 9th week. This WebCT course fulfills the semester credit health course required of all University School students graduating before 2013.

Expository Writing

This three week course will focus on the essay writing process. A variety of short reading selections are used as models for writing, The mechanics of writing is included in the program as explorations and application of various strategies enable writers to develop meaningful ideas and express these ideas clearly. This course fulfills a semester credit as an English elective.

Creative Writing

This three week course will focus on the various forms and structures of creative writing including poetry and short fiction. An analysis of a variety of examples will lead to student production of won works. This course fulfills a semester credit as an English elective

Sociology

The three week sociology course will focus on the phenomena of group interaction and subsequent impact on individuals and society. This course fulfills a semester credit of social studies elective.

Ethics

This three week course focuses on the foundations of ethical thought and theory as it applies to reasons and ethical choices society makes when confronted with controversial and complex, moral dilemmas in today’s society. This course fulfills a semester credit of social studies elective.

Comprehensive Law Studies

This three week course will focus on the legal system, court cases, trial law, and historical and future implications of laws governing society. This course fulfills a semester credit of social studies elective

Alegebra I

This 6 week course is designed to accelerate the student’s math track. It will cover the Algebra I curriculum in preparation for Algebra II. As an original credit course, wherein the student has not been exposed to Algebra II curriculum, the student must have completed a pre-algebra curriculum with no less than a 90 average and have a teacher/counselor recommendation.

Geometry

This 6 week course is designed to accelerate the student’s math track. It will cover the geometry curriculum. As an original credit course, wherein the student has not been exposed to geometry curriculum, the student must be on-level or advanced and have completed the algebra 1 curriculum with no less than a 90 average and have a teacher/counselor recommendation.

Biology

This 6 week course is designed to accelerate the student’s science track. It will cover the biology curriculum. As an original credit course, wherein the student has not been exposed to the biology curriculum, the student must have completed the most recent science class with no less than a 90 average and have a teacher/counselor recommendation.
