Lower School Dress Code

All NSU University School Lower School students must adhere to the NSU University School dress code as follows:

  1. Shirts: All students will wear a size-appropriate, approved NSU University School (monogrammed) polo and/or oxford shirt. Polo and oxford shirts are available in a variety of colors. Polo shirts come in two weaves—pique/mesh or brushed/interlochen weave. Oxford shirts with rounded and button down collars are acceptable. Short and long sleeves are available. Students will be allowed to continue wearing polo and oxford shirts with the old logo indefinitely.
  2. Walking shorts, straight-leg trousers, Capri length pants, and skorts: All students will wear size-appropriate pants/slacks, walking shorts, capris, or skorts in chino or twill fabric—approved colors are solid colored khaki, navy, or black. These may be purchased at any local retailer or through NSU University School official school attire providers. Cargo pants/shorts, baggies, low-leg shorts, or other variations of the shorts, trousers, or skorts as defined above are not permitted.
  3. Solid color, footed tights are allowed; however, leggings are not permitted.
  4. Footwear: All students will wear fully closed, flat shoes or sneakers. Boots are prohibited.
  5. P.E. Uniforms: Required attire for physical education is available for purchase through Debbies School Uniforms or Flynn & O'Hara School Uniforms. Students may wear sweat pants on PE days when temperatures are cool. Sweat pants must be the University School PE brands, or solids in khaki, navy, green or black.
  6. Outer Wear:
    1. For upper body, only outerwear with the official NSU University School or NSU logo may be worn.
    2. School uniform shirts must be worn under any outerwear.
    3. NSU University School sweatpants may be worn to school when students return from Thanksgiving break (November 28) until the day students return from Winter break (February 27). Sweatpants must be navy NSU University School sweatpants, with the non-elastic bottoms (not NSU sweatpants), obtainable through the authorized uniform stores, or the sweatpants sold in the Pride Packs or available on-line through the USchool Shark Shop. At no time may a student wear leggings, yoga pants, tight-fitting outerwear, or any sweatpants other than NSU University School or Pride Pack ones.
  7. Hats: Hats cannot be worn in the Lower School Building, except for P.E. or recess and must be pre-approved by appropriate personnel.
  8. Other: Taking into account changing fashion trends, the Administration reserves the right to determine if a students' dress is appropriate for the school environment. This may include, but not be limited to make-up, hair color, hair accessories, piercings, and tattoos. Parents may be asked to bring appropriate clothes to school in the event that a student arrives to school dressed improperly.
