Dear Middle School Parent(s),
Cycle I of our after school Extended Care Program will begin on Thursday August 23 with supervised study - supervised playground programs. These two programs are available during the entire school year. The Cycle I instructional class program begins on Tuesday September 4 and continues until November I. Classes are scheduled to be offered in art, chess, creative arts, computer, physical fitness, middle school performance skills, and speed reading. Schedule and fees for Cycle I activities are included in this notification. Classes will be offered based upon meeting a minimum required enrollment.
Extended Care supervised study -supervised playground is for students staying later than the normal 3:10 school day, and choosing not to enroll in after school instructional classes or participate in a school sponsored extra-curricular activity. It is available on a daily basis. Students enrolled in an Extended Care instructional class on a particular day may also attend the supervised study – supervised playground on that same day, at no additional charge, if they need to stay beyond completion of the instructional class.
(REMINDER: middle school students are not to be unsupervised on the NSU campus after 3:45 p.m. Students remaining after 3:45 p.m. must either be in a University Middle School approved program – extra-help; club; athletics; fine arts; Extended Care - or supervised in the middle school building as part of the daily supervised study -supervised playground at a fee of $10 per hour. Extended Care supervised study - playground ends at 5:15 daily. Students remaining after 5:15 must be picked up by 5:30 p.m. A $10 PER MINUTE charge will be assessed for any student not picked up by 5:30 p.m.)
The Extended Care instructional class program provides opportunities for students to pursue their interests, talents and creativity, “beyond” the regular school day curriculum. Most classes will be conducted between 3:15 and 4:30 p.m. Some specialized programs however (SENSA and LOVEWELL), when offered, will require lengthier class time. More information will be made available in this regard.
Sincerely,
Frederick Malan, Coordinator
