The Lower School Library Media Center provides students and teachers with a wide variety of services and resources that enrich the curriculum, provide literature enrichment, and assist in the development of a life-long appreciation for reading. Each library media center (LMC) is fully automated with an electronic catalog of holdings that can be searched in a pictorial format for the youngest users, or through more sophisticated Boolean search techniques for older students. All holdings are also listed in NovaCat, the NSU electronic catalog. Students can also search our electronic catalog from home through the University School web site. In addition to a rich collection of nearly 30,000 titles, each LMC also offers a selection of online, networked, and individual CD-ROM resources for research and skill enhancement.
A full-time Media Specialist and computer staff instructs students in library literacy and research skills, both print and online, including use of the Internet. Access to select, age appropriate resources at Nova Southeastern University’s Library and Technology Center is also provided. Students enjoy many reading services such as Book talks, Reading Counts, Summer Reading programs, book clubs, book fairs, storytelling, and book discussions. An acclaimed Video Production program affords students active experiences in live television broadcasts, video production classes and editing opportunities.
