Welcome Letter

Stay informed about what’s going on in your child’s classroom. Our newsletter will fill you in on all the important dates, upcoming events, and school projects that are going on this month. If you missed the last issue of our newsletter, please be sure to read it and see what your child participated in last month. Meet the Staff

Mrs. Ana Rodriguez Mrs. Ana Rodriguez has been teaching for 18 years. Her experience includes teaching in Pre-K at USchool and Kindergarten, and First Grade in the Dade & Broward County Public Schools. She is very excited about joining the First Grade Team as Team Leader this year. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education & Primary Education and an M.S. in Curriculum & Instruction from NSU. She received PIE Grant Awards entitled, "Storybook Treasures" and "My Bedtime Storybook" to encourage reading and improve comprehension skills.
Mrs. Marlene Ast Mrs. Marlene Ast has been teaching for more than twenty-five years. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in Education with a Specialization in Reading from Queens College in New York. Some of her many rewarding experiences include teaching at the undergraduate level at NSU, teaching reading to adults in the Adult Education Program, teaching G.E.D. classes, and being part of Camp Nova and University School's Summer Scholar's Program. She received the Pie Grant Awards, entitled, "Kids Care", "Poetry in Motion", and "The Truth Is In The Fold" and has been actively involved in committees such as Enrichment, Curriculum Writing, Math, and the New Teacher Mentorship Program.
Mrs. Penny Scheffing Mrs. Penny Scheffing has been teaching for over twenty years. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Language Arts and Reading from Florida International University. Some of her other experiences include curriculum facilitator, resource teaching, and instructor of children with special needs. This is now her third year on the First Grade team and has recently received a Pie Grant Award entitled “Writers”. In addition to her responsibilities as a classroom teacher, this will be her fourth year as Girl Scout Leader for University School Troop 116.
Kimberly Van Epps

Ms. Kimberly Van Epps earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from West Virginia University and her Masters in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University. She is currently enrolled in the Specialist Program in School Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. Kimberly previously taught Second and Third grades. This is her second year as a First Grade team member at University School.

Ms. Samara Kahn Ms. Samara Kahn has been at University School for the past 4 years. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in Early Childhood Education and a Masters degree in Reading from Nova Southeastern University. Samara currently teaches cheerleading in our after school Cultural Arts Program and is also the JV/Varsity Cheerleading Coach for the Middle and Upper Schools.
Ms. Jamie Domain Jamie Domain is excited about joining the University School team. She comes with six years of teaching experience from Illinois where she taught Kindergarten. Jamie has her BS in Elementary Education from Illinois State University and is currently obtaining her Masters in Reading from Northern Illinois University.
