Andre Torres
Named head coach in August of 2007; Coach Andre Torres looks to make great strides with the Suns basketball program. Coach Torres has high expectations for his players and coaching staff and is eager to get started - “This is a great time to be a part of University School basketball. I like the schools overall direction and commitment to excellence. We continue to be a top-notch academic institution. Our athletic programs are growing. We are in the midst of constructing new facilities. We have a great group of kids. The balance is just great. I am very thankful for the opportunity and look forward to the challenge of developing the Suns basketball program into something the University School family and community can be proud of.”
Prior to joining the Suns, Coach Torres had helped to develop some of the better young talent in the tri-county area through his involvement with various competitive basketball programs. As a player, he had great success in both the United States and Argentina. He started his playing career at the University of Texas – San Antonio before transferring to Nova Southeastern University. His achievements as a player earned him numerous accolades including being named to the 2000-2001 Florida Sun Conference All-Tournament Team.
Coach Torres’ ability to draw from his experience and work ethic as a player has proved invaluable as a coach. His ability to breakdown and teach the game of basketball as well as the game of life is one of his most respected characteristics among his players and peers.
