Picture from Tennis States Competition

Congratulations to Adam Bernstein who advanced all the way to the FHSAA State Finals Wednesday morning. Adam was defeated by a player ranked in the top 30 in the United States. Adam fought hard, winning several tough matches while competing in Orlando over the course of the last three days. Adam’s accomplishments along with State-Qualifiers, Alex Coleman and Sammy Greissman, capped a tremendously successful 2009 Boys and Girls Tennis.

2009 saw the girls team win their second consecutive District 14, Class 1A Title and finishing with an overall record of 10-4. The girls were led by upperclassmen, Alex Coleman and Sammy Greissman. The Suns received tremendous production from underclassmen, Perri Silverstein, Nichole Torres, Sydney Silverstein, Leah Bush, and a cast of others.

The boys were nearly dominant in 2009, led by Tulane-bound, Adam Bernstein’s State Runner-up finish. The boys collected a 10-4 record, knocking off perennial powers, St. Andrew’s and Miami Country Day along the way. The boys received terrific productivity from Kevin Segal, Eric Ginsberg, Justin Plutt, and the combination of performances by Jason Kasten, Zach Coleman, David Omsky, and several others.

Under first year Director, Mitch Rubenstein, University School Tennis has a new direction, a sense of purpose, and is now once again considered one of the elite tennis programs in South Florida. Look for the program only to progress as players become more and more skilled and dominant on the courts.
