“Lightning End Suns’ Season”
Cypress Bay took three games from the Suns, ending a topsy-turvy season. The Suns finished the 2008 campaign with a 10-12 record and qualifying for the District Tournament.
The Suns experienced a tale of three separate seasons in 2008. The team began the season strong, sporting a 4-2 record through their first six games. Early season victories over Pine Crest and American Heritage helped the Suns' confidence. The strong start cooled off, however, as they dropped seven of eight matches. The team revived itself just in time for the District Championships as they reeled off four consecutive victories. The Suns battled Cypress Bay hard in their first round district game, nearly winning two of three matches.
In the team's victories, the Suns received strong play from seniors Ian Naylor, Matt Bartnovsky, and Tony Gonzalez. Junior Pedro Parjus played aggressively as one of the team's leaders in kills. Sophomore Zack Gart was a model of consistency all season long and fellow sophomores Alex Sherman and Jon Smith have given much needed support to the Suns' line-up.
