Suns Finish Strong In 12 - 3 Win Over North Broward Prep
University School's JV baseball team may have stumbled out of the blocks in their home opener, but the three runs they gave away were the last that North Broward Prep would score. Jordan Schulefand took the mound in relief with two outs in the 1st inning and recorded seven strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings of work. Offensively, the US Suns exploded in the bottom of the 6th inning as a combination of timely hitting and walks produced seven of the team's 12 runs. Isaac Zinguer's three-run walk-off blast over the center field net ended the game with a bang. Other hitters with a good night at the plate were Freddie Sultan with a single and a double, and Adam Sinkoe with two doubles and a walk.
JV Baseball Suns Win Opener Against Hurricanes
University School JV Baseball kicked off the 2012 season with a 5 -3 win at Northeast High. The US Suns pitchers shined, recording 15 strikeouts over seven innings. Freddie Sultan set the tone with five strikeouts (K's) in two short innings of work. Shane Wise followed with five over his two innings and Brendan McKendry added another four K's in the final three innings to close the game.
Offensively, McKendry led the US Suns hitters with two doubles while Isaac Zinguer added a double and a sacrifice fly for two RBIs. Cameron Chafetz had two singles and an RBI. Defensively, the team battled, falling behind in the middle innings before tying the game in the top of the 6th. The US Suns took the lead at the top of the 7th, capitalizing on McKendry's final two strikeouts for the 5 -3 win.
