Please check the "Athletic Calendar" and individual sports pages to check on dates, times, venue locations and directions, as well as updates.
All athletes must complete all of the required participation forms PRIOR to participating in practices and/or tryouts. Please read the forms carefully and be sure to only submit forms that are completely filled out. Forms should be brought in to the Athletic Department in the Sports Center, or front desks of the Middle and/or Upper Schools.

JV Girls Soccer Nets Undefeated Season
University School's JV Girls Soccer team finished their season undefeated! A 5-1 victory over the South Florida Heat capped off an incredible series of matches with Tori Alfero scoring two goals, and Alyssa Bonchick, Melissa Rabinowitz, and Christina Bedley each scoring one goal. USchool Players Medal at MS Tennis Championships
Congratulations to MS tennis players Noah Cohen and Alp Yurttutan for taking home silver medals at the Championship League Playoffs! Noah placed second in the league for singles and then captured silver in #1 doubles with Alp.
Jordy Groters and Emily Kopas Are State Champions
Jordy Groters and Emily Kopas brought home three State Championship Titles for University School! Emily is State Champion in the girls 100 breaststroke and Jordy Groters is a two-time State Champion as a result of his performances in the boys 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Both student-athletes earned automatic All-American time standards.
US Suns Shine at State Championships
Congratulations to University School's swimming and diving team for bringing home three individual state championship titles and numerous other honors. 11-year-old diver Maia Goldstein (also the youngest States participant) competed against a field of 24 and garnered a 6th place medal for USchool. The girls 200 Medley Relay comprising Allison Kopas, Evy Sands, Krissa Robinson and Emily Kopas placed 6th and the boys 400 Free Relay comprising Marco Hosfeld, Nicholas Oberndorfer, Matthew Lyn and Jordy Groters placed 3rd. Both relays earned All-American consideration times. Overall, the girls team finished in 8th place and the boys placed 4th.
University School Sweeps Three District Championship Titles
University School’s Golf, Varsity Football and Boys Swimming and Diving teams all earned the title District Champions. The achievements are all the more impressive when one considers that 100% of qualifying teams were officially recognized last year by Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) as Academic Champions, an impressive academic designation sweep that University School’s coaches and teachers are striving to achieve again this year. First District Championship Win for Swim & Dive Team
University School's swimming and diving team had an outstanding performance at Friday's District meet. The girls placed 4th and the boys placed 1st. This is USchool's first Swimming and Diving District Championship. Way to go, US Suns! Individual event winners included Jordy Groters and Emily Kopas. Krissa Robinson, Nicolas Oberndorfer, Emily Kopas and Jordy Groters broke individual school records and Matthew Lyn, Marco Hosfeld, Patrick Groters, Jordy Groters and Nicolas Oberndorfer swam on record-breaking relays. University School On ESPN for Second Year
ESPN will include University School’s varsity football team as one of 13 defending State Champions participating in the annual high school kickoff marathon. USchool is scheduled to take on Homestead Sunday, August 25 at 11 a.m. The game will be held at Cypress Bay High with the broadcast on ESPNU.
University School’s Athletic Showcase
Save the date for our Athletic Showcase August 21 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Brown Sports Center. This event will provide students and parents with the opportunity to meet our athletic coaches, gather information regarding participation requirements and practice/game dates, and ask questions about the sport of your choice!

NSU Aquatics is a certified club with USA Swimming that offers a variety instructional opportunities for children and adults:
- Swim Club produces great swimmers and instills solid values like hard work, self-respect, personal responsibility, time management, and sportsmanship.
- Masters Swimming offers a competitive swim schedule, inclusive of meets, for adults age 18 and older. It can also supplement your regular fitness routine.
- Swim Lessons instill survival skills and offer the chance for one-on-one or group instruction for children age 6 months and older.
- Swim Camp is designed for swimmers of all abilities and ages. Campers train at NSU’s 8-lane, 50-meter pool, with an adjacent 7-lane diving well.
All NSU Aquatics programs begin the week of September 1, 2013.

100% Academic Champions
Congratulations to University School's spring sports teams for placing in the Top 10 in their respective classifications in the Florida High School Athletic Association. This means that 100% of our varsity teams meeting the minimum number of participants threshold have been named Academic Champions for 2012-2013! Way to excel on and off the field, US Suns!!

Girls Basketball Team’s GPA Leads State
In addition to ranking first in Class 4A for highest cumulative GPA, University School’s girls basketball team represented the highest GPA of state competitors. Tennis State Championships ReportUniversity School's #1 boys doubles team of Ryan Khan and David Omsky got off to a great start in Orlando. The #1 seeded duo won their two matches with relative ease at the Lake Sylvan Tennis Center. In their first match they beat the #1 team from Auburndale HS 6-1, 6-1. In the semi-finals they beat the top team from Dreyfoos HS 6-2, 6-1. Khan and Omsky will now play in the individual final against a team yet to be determined. Two Track Stars Qualify Already for States At the District Meet
Matthew Nelson led the point scorers with a 2nd place finish in both the 1600 and 3200. Quincy Wilson placed third in an extremely competitive 400 meter field with a time of 51.59 that is a new school record. (Quincy also placed 6th in the equally competitive 200 meter dash.) Matthew and Quincy have both advanced to the next round of the State Championship series. On the girls side, Emma Gellman, a MS athlete, finished in 7th place in the long jump with a personal best 14-05.50. Regionals are next Friday at Glades Central High School. The top four in each event will advance to the State Finals.
Tennis Duo Advances to States, Boys and Girls Team Place Top 3 at Districts
University School’s girls tennis team finished third and the boys finished second with a single point separating them from first at the District Championships. Leah Bush won districts at the number two singles position and was a finalist at the number one doubles position with Danielle Obolevitch. Ryan Khan won districts at the number two singles position and teamed with David Omsky in winning number one doubles. That win automatically qualifies Ryan and David for the State Doubles Championship!
Jordan Gumberg Wins Knoxville Junior Golf Open
University School Athletic Department congratulates Jordan Gumberg on winning the Knoxville Junior Golf Open in Tennessee this past weekend. "This as an extremely prestigious event and we are very proud of Jordan's accomplishments."
University School Winter Sports Teams Are Academic Champions
All University School winter sports teams have been named Top 10 Academic Champions by the Florida High School Sports Association (FHSSA). This makes the second straight season that 100% of our teams have been so honored! University School ranks #2 overall in our class as a result. Varsity girls' basketball captured the #1 spot in their sport based on cumulative GPA. The University School Athletic Department would like to thank our student-athletes, coaches, faculty and administration for its continued emphasis on creating an environment conducive to academic, athletic and social development for our student-athletes. Congratulations again to all our student-athletes on this tremendous achievement!
NSU Hosts NCAA Division II Championship TournamentUniversity School students and staff can receive one FREE ticket per card to Friday's match when NSU's Women's Basketball Team takes on Clark Atlanta at 6 pm in the Don Taft University Center courts. Just present your card at the gate to receive one free ticket per Shark Card. If you have NSU or shark-related gear, please wear it and feel free to bring NSU or Shark signs to help cheer the Women's Basketball team to victory. Go Suns, Go Sharks!
Three Soccer Players Invited to Play All-Star Game
Congratulations to varsity girls' soccer players Jazlyn Scott, Gillian Newman and Hannah Katz on their selection to the Soccer Max/Soccer Locker Senior All-Star Game! An additional congratulations to USchool coach Evan Grosz, selected as head coach. The game will be played on Friday, February 22 at American Heritage-Plantation at 6 p.m. Way to go, US Suns!
Boys Basketball Wins Second Consecutive District ChampionshipUniversity School varsity boys' basketball team rallied for a decisive 64-48 victory over North Broward Prep (NBP). As a result, the US Suns captured the team's second consecutive District Championship title. USchool seniors posted "double doubles" with Maquedius Bain contributing 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jalen Battle chipping in 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior point guard Mikon Hewitt added 12 points and nine assists, and junior Champe Barton connected on (3) three pointers en route to scoring 15 points for the team. The US Suns host District 14 runner-up Booker T. Washington Thursday, February 14 at home. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Come out and support your US Suns
8th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions Honors University School
University School's varsity football team will be honored by MaxPreps and the Army National Guard during a pep rally on Monday, January 28 at 2:15 p.m. in the Noel P. Brown Sports Center. Out of all of the high school football teams nationwide, only 50 of the nation's top-ranked teams are being honored. Family and friends are welcome. Congratulations to our championship team! Night of Champions
On Wednesday, December 19 from 7-10pm, South Florida High School Sports is hosting a “Night of Champions” at Bokampers Restaurant in Miramar. On this night, they will be recognizing University School as well as the other 6 teams who advanced to Orlando and the state championship over the last 2 weeks. Radio 560 WQAM will interview our coaches and players and honor our team for their great accomplishment. Parents, coaches and staff members are welcome to attend as well.
Middle School Swimmer Earns 14 Gold Medals
University School swimmer Patrick Groters (grade 7) won 14 Gold medals at the National Championships in Aruba. He also qualified for six events in CARIFTA, the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships which will be held in Jamaica in March 2013. Way to go, US Sun!!
University School Wins State Football Championship
The Suns Varsity Football Team are the 2012 State of Florida 3A Champions after defeating Madison County High School 24-17 on Saturday afternoon. Mike White led the offense with 282 yards passing and two touchdowns. Emmanuel Soto had five catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. DJ Taylor had seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown while Jordan Cunningham added 4 catches for a game high 85 yards. Jordan Scarlett added 73 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Defensively the Suns were led by Skai Moore's 16 tackles and a sack. Cody Schooley and Wesley Smith added eight tackles a piece. Jalen Battle had four tackles and an interception while Quincy Wilson added six tackles. Andrew Korakakos had a pair of tackles and forced fumble.
The Suns football team would like to thank all of the students, parents, teachers and administrators for the support they showed during University School's first ever football title run.
University School Swimmer Breaks Record at Winter National Championships
University School's Emily Kopas won the C Finals for the 200 breaststroke at the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships and broke a record that has stood for 22 years! Overall, Emily placed 17th in the nation for this event, and beat her personal best time by over four seconds.
Suns Football Team Wins Regional Semi-Final
Congratulations to the Suns football team on their win against Cardinal Newman with a score of 27-0. Join us as the Suns take on American Heritage - Delray in the regional finals this Friday, November 23rd at 7:30pm at Nova High School.
Under Armour All Americans
Congratulations to Jordan Cunningham and Marquadius Bain who have both been selected as Under Armour All American football team athletes. Additionally, coach Roger Harriott has also been selected and will serve as an Under Armour All American Coach. The fact that two University School athletes and a coach were selected from the same school for the team is unprecedented. We congratulate coach Harriott and these two athletes and look forward to seeing the televised game on January 4, 2013.
University School Sends 12 Swimmers to State!
University School advanced the following swimmers and one diver to the state championship meet, including two alternate power swimmers: Rebecca Basch, Marco Hosfeld, Emily Kopas, Alli Kopas, Zackary Laurence, Matthew Lyn, Daniel Pereira, Sebastian Oberndorfer, Nicolas Oberndorfer, Krissa Robinson, Evy Sands. Congratulations team!
University School Varsity Football Wins District Championship
University School's varsity football team clinched the District Championship on Friday with a 27-0 win over Westminster Christian. The US Suns were led on offense by LaJuan Hunt who rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown and Jordan Cunningham with 115 yards receiving. Defensively, Skai Moore led the way with eight tackles and two interceptions. Brandon Boyce added seven tackles, and Nicholas Internicola had six tackles and a sack.
USchool Swims Away with Invitational Championship
University School hosted the annual Sun Invite Swimming and Diving Championship and swam away with the girls' and boys' title. The first place finishes represented the first double-team-win for the US Suns. In addition, the team made record splashes: Emily Kopas broke the record for the girls' 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.69, shaving three seconds from the 2010 record. Daniel Pereira broke the breaststroke record for the third time this season, bringing the record time to 1:01.81. And the boys' 400 free relay broke the record for the second time this season, bringing the new time to 3:25.20. Between the two teams, the boys and girls teams realized four first place finishes for relay events.
University Golf Team Invited to Honda Classic
Newspaper writers have determined that USchool's Varsity Golf is among the strongest teams in the state! As a result, USchool will participate for the first time in the Honda Classic High School Invitational, September 21 and 22, 2012.
Swimmers Shine at Splash Invitational
Zachary Laurence and Emily Kopas were recently named Athletes of the Week by the Miami Herald for their individual performances at the St. Andrew’s September Splash Invitational. Zachary won the diving title (236.85) and Emily won the 100-meter breaststroke and finished 2nd in the 200 individual medley, respectively.
University School Scores Big with ESPN Debut
University School Suns football earned a tremendous 33-14 win over Trotwood Madison High School in Ohio. The nationally televised game was part of ESPN's High School Football Kickoff during which commentators praised the USchool program, head coach and numerous stand-out players. University School Golf Chosen for Invitational
Every year, newspaper writers who follow high school golf as well as coaches, mostly in Palm Beach, determine who are the strongest teams in the state. They invite those teams to the Honda Classic High School Invitational. This year, for the first time, University School has been invited to the tournament.
The tournament takes place Friday, September 21st and Saturday, September 22nd. The two day event will be held at PGA National in Palm Beach on the Champions Course (where the Honda Classic is played). In fact, the second day will have the Honda Classic Sunday pin position!
The event consists of six varsity players from each team with 4 score counting. Other competing teams include Benjamin, Bolles; American Heritage, Naples; Olympia, Lakewood Ranch; St. Andrews; Circle Christian; Cardinal Newman, Vero beach; Spruce Creek; and Sandlewood. "This list is the best of the best on a national basis, let alone just Florida," commented USchool's new associate athletics director, Dan Gill.
