Athletic Showcase
The second annual “Athletic Showcase” will commence on Monday, August 18th at 7:00 P.M. in the Sports Center Gymnasium. This is a great opportunity to see what University School Athletics has to offer to its student athletes and parents. Additionally, a representative from each sport will be available for prospective student-athletes and parents to inquire about. The Athletic Council will be selling merchandise and spirit items for 2008-2009. Finally, the “Sun Spot” will make its first opening for the ’08-’09 school year, selling food and drink refreshments for the evening. We look forward to seeing you all there on the 18th!
Football
Summer ’08 has proven to be very active in the land of Suns Football. Many of our student-athletes have dedicated themselves this summer to 10 AM and 5:30 PM workouts in effort to improve upon last season’s 8-3 record. The team began competing in 7-on-7 competitions in June at the Miami Dolphin 7-on-7 tournament. 24 teams from Palm Beach, Broward and Dade County competed in the tournament. The Suns represented the school well as they competed versus two of the top three place finishers in the tournament in Miami Edison High School and Miramar High School. The team also competes twice weekly in 7-on-7 games in the Miami Dolphins Bubble versus Upperroom Christian Academy, Westminster Academy and South Florida Prep. After three weeks of competition, the Suns have compiled a record of nine wins and one loss. Finally, the Suns competed in a 7-on-7 tournament this past weekend (7/12) versus rivals Nova High School and American Heritage. The Suns took home wins in each of their three games, beating Nova two times and American Heritage once. The Suns look to finish off the final three weeks of their off-season strong as they will compete in four more 7-on-7’s in the Miami Dolphins Bubble.
Mini-camp commences on August 4th and will run from the 4th through the 8th from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Two-a-days begin the following Monday, August 11th.
