  • MS Volleyball tryouts will take place August 19 and 20 from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Noel P. Brown Sports Center (Students must wear their physical education clothes with proper sneakers) Preseason Practice will be from August 10-14 from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Noel P. Brown Sports Center. Please direct any questions you may have to Coach Amanda Isakson at
  • 6th Grade and MS Football practices begin on August 3 on Field A (turf Field behind the Noel P. Brown Sports Center). Practices will continue every Monday-Friday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. until school starts. Once school starts, practices will continue every Monday-Friday from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Mini Camp will be July 29-31 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Field A. Mini Camp is for football players in grades 6 -12. There is a $20 fee per player. Please direct any questions you may have to Coach Faheem Ali at
  • MS Cross Country practices begin on August 3 on Field A (turf Field behind the Noel P. Brown Sports Center). Practices will continue every Monday-Friday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. Please direct any questions you may have to Coach Derrick Wood at
  • Swimming practices begin August 10 at the NSU Aquatic Center. Practices will continue every Monday-Friday from 4-6 p.m. Please direct any questions you may have to Coach Katie Byrnes at
  • A Varsity Swimming Meeting will take place on May 27 at 3:20 p.m. in the Upper School Dining Commons. This meeting is for students interested in participating in the Varsity swimming program.
  • There will be an informational meeting for cheerleading and to meet the new varsity coach on May 20 in the sports center at 3:30 p.m. The meeting is for Middle School and Upper School students. Tryouts are scheduled for May 26-27 for both MS and US from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • MS cheerleading tryouts will be held on May 26 and 27 in the Noel P. Sports Center from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Practices will take place on August 3, 4,11,12, and 17. The Varsity Baseball Team defeated Piper to capture the Championship at the South Broward Bulldog Classic. The event hosted some of the largest schools in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties.  The Suns were dominant on the mound led by starter Evan McKendry and reliever Buddy Hayward. On the offensive side, Jake Kubiliun had 3 hits and 1 RBI to lead the team. Both Kyle Oren and Jesse Crosno contributed 2 hits to lead the Suns which had 11 total hits on the evening. Great job Suns!

The Varsity Baseball Team honored Dr. Chermak for his service to University School as he threw out a ceremonial 1st pitch! Dr. Chermak is retiring in June after 33 years with University School including 16 years as Headmaster. Congratulations to Caroline Kapp and Jada Preston for being recognized as this week's Miami Herald Athletes of the Week! Both girls had four goals against American Heritage last week in an 11-9 victory. The Suns also played No. 5 Pine Crest last week. In that game, Caroline scored four goals and Jada two goals. The Girls Basketball Team placed 1st with a team GPA of 3.987, Boys Soccer Team placed 2nd with a team GPA of 3.648, Boys Basketball Team placed 4th with a team GPA of 3.454, and the Girls Soccer Team placed 17th with a team GPA of 3.541. The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team had a huge win against district opponent American Heritage! Scoring for the Suns were Jada Preston and Caroline Kapp with 4 goals each. Peri Shechtman also added 1 goal and had 2 assists. Bryn Tolchinsky had a phenomenal game with 2 goals and 3 caused turnovers. In goal, Sydney Soltau recorded 9 saves. Way to go, Suns!

The Varsity Girls Tennis Team beat American Heritage with a score of 4-2. The winners in singles were Leah Bush, Eleanor Ohayon, and Amelia Meles. The doubles winners were Kaylee Witschen and Eleanor Ohayon.

Over the weekend, the Track and Field Team competed at the Archbishop McCarthy Big Blue Invitational. The following athletes achieved new personal bests: Chandler DeMayo 100m 14.13; Julian Warhaftig 400m 1:02.57..dropped 8 seconds; Gianna Milan 800m 2:26.45…dropped 5seconds. Gianna's time also qualifies her for the MS State Championship to be held in Bradenton later this year. Our boys 4x100m team also made the finals!

The Varsity Baseball Team defeated Chaminade 8-6 in a district match-up! Buddy Hayward improved his record to 3-0 on the season by pitching great out of the bullpen. Evan McKendry had a home run and 3 RBI’s to pace the offensive attack.

The Varsity Baseball Team defeated Marathon High School by a score of 12-0. Buddy Hayward got the win on the mound and recorded 6 strike-outs. The Suns were led offensively by Kyle Oren and Evan Klugerman who both had 2 hits in the victory.

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team defeated Plantation High School in a 14 to 0 victory! Scoring for the Suns were Morgan Glicksman, Farrah Stone, Molly Hauser, Julia Hollo, Jada Preston, Chiara Omsky, and Caroline Kapp. Goalie Sydney Soltau recorded her first varsity shutout.

Congratulations to the MS Girls Basketball Team for winning the South Florida Middle School League Championship. The Suns defeated Somerset Miramar 24-20. Jacey Katz was the leading scorer with 13 points and Charli Frye had 7 points. Way to go, girls!

Calvary Christian is hosting the championship games on January 20, 2015. The championship games are on January 20, starting at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. (The higher seed wears white.) Girls championship at 4 p.m. Somerset Miramar (2 seed) vs. University School (4 seed).

The FHSAA Academic Team Champions were announced and two of our teams placed second! The Boys Cross Country Team finished with a cumulative Team GPA of 3.848. The Boys Golf Team finished with a cumulative team GPA of 3.894. Congratulations to both teams!

Congratulations to our swim and dive team on an outstanding performance at Regionals on Saturday. Our girls team finished in 5th place out of 27 teams and our boys team finished first! This is our first regional championship win in school history. Congratulations to the entire team for this outstanding accomplishment. The following athletes have qualified for individual events at states: Allison Kopas, Annabella Lyn, Maia Goldstein, Daniel Pereira, Matthew Lyn, Sam Asnis, Max Asnis, and Patrick Groters. Relay members include Abigail Carswell, Amanda Kopas, Thais Carrion, John Silvera, and Grant Besner. Way to go Suns!

The Middle School and JV Girls Volleyball teams play each other at 4 p.m. on October 10 in the Sports Center. Varsity will play Somerset at 5:30 p.m. also on October 10. This is an event we host in tandem with Pink for Life to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. USchool will be decorating the gym in pink, selling baked goods, and honoring those who have been touched by breast cancer. We will also be honoring our seniors in their last home volleyball match. Parents of the seniors should be present at 5 p.m.

Raul Mendy, a University School senior and lacrosse player, was recently recruited to Tufts University in Massachusetts. We are proud to say he is USchool’s FIRST lacrosse college recruit. Raul was also among 117 players nationwide who were honored as “All-Americans” by US Lacrosse. In an interview with Florida Lacrosse News, Raul said he has big hopes for his last year at University School: “I hope to lead USchool to an undefeated season, and then making it to Districts and winning the district title.” To read more of the interview, click here.

Rising Junior RHP (right-handed pitcher) Evan M. has committed to play baseball at the University Of Miami. He continues the tradition of University School baseball players who have joined the Hurricanes. Last year's roster featured both USchool graduates Tyler Palmer (class of 2009) and Sebastian Diaz (class of 2013). Daniel Epstein (class of 2014) will also join the team this fall. Evan will continue to lead the Suns for the next two seasons on the mound. Congratulations to him and his family on this great accomplishment!

Please check the "Athletic Calendar" and individual sports pages to check on dates, times, venue locations and directions, as well as updates.

All athletes must complete all of the required participation forms PRIOR to participating in practices and/or tryouts. Please read the forms carefully and be sure to only submit forms that are completely filled out. Forms should be brought in to the Athletic Department in the Sports Center, or front desks of the Middle and/or Upper Schools.
